Interview: Shelly Fairchild Talks Upcoming Gulf Coast Jam Performance and Nashville Favorites

Thank you for talking with us Shelly! What are you looking forward to most playing the Gulf Coast Jam? WOW! It’s literally the first major festival to kick things up here in 2021! I’m just super excited to be playing music LIVE again for lots of people! We’re BACK and it feels great!

What song are you most excited for old and new fans to hear? I think I’m most excited to play a new tune of mine called “ON THE HIGHWAY” since it’s all about getting out to hear LIVE music!! And it’s a fun tune to sing ;)

Do you plan on catching any other performances while at the festival? I 100% will be jamming out to some Brothers Osborne because they are such a killer band! I will also be cheering on my buddy Lindsay Ell..she’s super awesome! I’m happy to see girls in the lineup so I’m gonna try to make sure I catch each of those shows! And of course, the big acts! No one should miss those!!!

You’ve accomplished so much already. Any other bucket list items you are eager to check off? I would LOVE to get back out on a REALLY BIG tour! That’s where my heart lies… on stage. So, I’m excited to see what the future holds! Oh, and I wanna sing with Dolly Parton!!!!! That would be the icing on the cake for me!

You have built quite a fan following on social media and through touring. How do you stay connected with your fans? Especially during a year without touring or concerts? It’s so easy to stay connected now because you basically just turn your phone on and start a video and then go…… everyone is so accessible these days! I actually took more time to create during this past year, so my social media suffered a bit. BUT anytime I wanted to engage, I just had to log on. Its CRAZY how it all works now! I LOVE IT! It’s excellent for everyone.

What makes Nashville special to you? I have built my whole life in Nashville. I have a home, a family, and my incredible network of musicians. Being here has taught me most of what I know (some good and some bad things- ha!) It’s such a beautiful place with a small town AND a big city feel. The traffic is getting to be terrible but there is always a quiet country road to be found. It’s just an all-around great place to call home.

Say you had a completely free day in Nashville—no work allowed. What would you be doing? I would be Kayaking on The Caney River or hiking a Percy Warner Park trail. Or maybe I’d take a drive to see my friend Tayla Lynn out at Loretta’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills. That’s always a really good day!

What are some of your favorite Nashville restaurants? Well, there are so many now. I’ll throw out a few names. I LOVE Lockeland Table, City House, Chauhan Ale & Masala House, Emmy Squared, Giovanni’s, The Treehouse, Kayne Prime, Saint Anejo, Roze Cafe, Shep’s Diner, and Cafe Margot, and OF COURSE The Lipstick Lounge for some delicious brunch!!!!!

What one thing that excites you most about the Nashville music scene right now? WE HAVE EVERYTHING!!!! I feel like everyone just moved here.. alllllll kinds of music! And we are finally not JUST known for Country or Christian music. There is everything here,, for real! It’s a very exciting time in music actually. I love the diversity.

Is there anything coming up for you that you’d like to share? I am working on a new record with my friend Lila McCann!! We started a band and we are called HATEFUL GREY. So stay tuned for that!!!
