The 6 1 5 Featuring Lake & Lyndale

Lake & Lyndale is a vibrant Americana band originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, now making waves in the heart of Music City. After moving to Nashville in late 2017, the band quickly became known for its soulful songwriting, rich harmonies, and captivating live performances. The band’s name pays homage to the iconic intersection of Lake Street and Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis—a nod to their roots and the place that brought the four band members together.

What’s up, I’m Channing Krentz. I’m the lead singer of our band, Lake & Lyndale, as well as a songwriter here in Nashville, Tennessee. My band and I moved to Nashville from Minnesota, which is where our name comes from (streets names in Minneapolis). I’ve been writing songs and traveling around with the band for 10+ years. The move to Nashville was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Channing Krentz of Lake & Lyndale's Top Six

What makes Nashville special to you? Nashville is truly a unique city, there is no other place like it on earth. The concentration of talented musicians, songwriters, producers, and music industry people is so inspiring! The fact that I can walk into any dive bar on any given night and hear top-notch live music is so special. I am so thankful to be part of the scene and proud to call Nashville home.

Most under-rated thing about Nashville? I think the most underrated thing about Nashville is how easy it is to escape. When I need a break or to clear my head, there are tons of beautiful parks within 30 minutes of downtown. It really has helped create a balance for me personally in this crazy industry.

How would you say your hometown of Assumption differs from Nashville? I grew up in Assumption, Illinois, a town of about 1,000 people. I would say it is the complete opposite of Nashville, which isn’t a bad thing! It has a classic “small town America” feel. I love the fact that I can drive home from Nashville and I still know everyone. I’m lucky in the sense I can just randomly drive home for a weekend and have family time. It helps keep me grounded and remember my roots.

What are some of your favorite Nashville restaurants? I live close to East Nashville, so that is where I frequent, and Hawkers, Bite a Bit, El Fuego, Village Pub, and Nobles all come to mind. The amount of restaurants in East Nashville alone is one of my favorite things. Also does Jimmy John's count? Can’t go wrong with that.

Is there a place you haven't eaten you have been dying to go? There is a tiny restaurant in East Nashville called Once Upon a Time in France. I have heard a lot of great things but haven’t had the chance to go yet because it is so small and doesn’t have a ton of seating. I’d have to plan ahead to make it happen, which isn’t my forte.

If someone is coming to Nashville for the first time, where do you take them? If it is their first time, I’d say Broadway. I don’t frequent Broadway because it is chaos, but it is definitely something a first-timer has to see and experience. I’d also take them to the Listening Room. Songwriter rounds are such a unique thing to Nashville, and I think it is important for people to hear.

One Thing About Nashville

What is one way Nashville has influenced your music? I think Nashville has just helped me up my game. It is such an inspiring town, and once you find your people, the support is always there. There is this “we are all in it together” mentality. Since moving here, it constantly reminds me how awesome and impactful music can be.

Five Favorites

What’s your favorite place for breakfast in Nashville? Jay's Family Restaurant is a hidden gem; it is maybe 10 minutes outside of Nashville and has great food and good prices. Just great Southern-style food, with vintage charm.

Do you have a favorite music venue? I think the 5 Spot in East Nashville is one of my favorites. It always sounds amazing in there. It is a smaller club, but the talent is always top-tier, and, because it is so intimate, it can really create some amazing moments.

Favorite museum? The Country Music Hall of Fame is the best!

Best place to grab a beer? Nobles. Great specials, great food, some outdoor seating, TVs, pool, darts. It has all the things a good bar needs.

Best Broadway bar? Ole Red is def my favorite Broadway bar.
