The 6 1 5 Featuring Nick Johnson

Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nick Johnson followed his musical passions all over the country - from his hometown of Brooklyn, New York to New Hampshire, Boston, Los Angeles and now Nashville, Tennessee. Known nationally for his six-string and songwriting/arranging skills, Nick is no stranger to making a big splash. He recently had two of his original songs featured in Hollywood releases: "She's So Lonely" (Bill Murray Experience) and "Playmate" (Party Bus To Hell). His newest single “Just Like Me” is now available on all streaming platforms.

Nick Johnson's Top Six

How would you say your hometown of Brooklyn, New York differs from Nashville? They are very different! They’re both magical places in their own right. They have very diametrically opposing vibes, in my opinion.

What makes Nashville special to you? For me, it’s the songs, music and musicians (camaraderie). As a guitar picking enthusiast Nashville, just gets into your playing and music (like the smell of smoke on my clothes LOL) - at least for me, and that’s one of the reasons I came here.

Say you had a completely free day in Nashville—no work allowed. What would you be doing? Take a run through Shelby Park, walk my pups, pick my guitar some, fire in the backyard, NSC game with my boys and girls from BootLeggers!

What are some of your favorite Nashville restaurants? Nicoletto’s, Casa Fiesta, The Southern, Five Points Pizza, ExoTikka, Thai Esane, and Darfons.

If someone is coming to Nashville for the first time, where do you take them? Broadway (of course people want to experience it), The Frist, NSC game or event, kayaking on the lake, and Prince's!

Most under-rated thing about Nashville? The Venezuelan food here is amazing!

One Thing About Nashville

How has Nashville influenced your music? It's made me a better guitar player, singer, writer and person, for sure! Nashville has left it’s stank on me and my soul - through all the performing with bands, writing, recording, session work, teaching I’ve done and do. That’s why I came here. Those experiences all inform my artistic and creative choices, much like any place you call home for an elongated period of time. It’s amazing to be around and be working with other creative people.

Five Favorites

Best Broadway bar? I go to different bars downtown for different reasons. There all so different!

Favorite place to go on date night? Marketplace Nashville night market. Food trucks, local vendors, cocktails and live music.

Do you have a favorite music venue? The Basement East, The 5Spot, and Robert’s Western World.

Best place to grab a beer? The Flying Saucer, East Nashville Brew Works.

What’s your favorite place for breakfast in Nashville? Frothy Monkey! It all starts with the coffee.
